Sleigh Bells Shred ‘Minnie’ on ‘Fallon’
Horns, backup singers augment their sweet-and-lowdown sound
Sleigh Bells dropped by Late Night With Jimmy Fallon last night to perform the Bitter Rivals track “Minnie.” In true Sleigh Bells fashion, the performance mashed up the band’s pulverizing, abrasive rock with Alexis Krauss’ sugary-sweet vocals. But they also brought some friends along: Krauss had a trio of backup singers helping out, and a small horn section complemented guitarist Derek Miller’s non-stop shredding. Krauss also sported a “Bitter Rivals” jacket, which seemed like appropriate attire for a television spot.

The Fallon performance caps another strong year for the New York City duo. Last October, they released Bitter Rivals, their second album in less than two years. They’ve been on the road for most of the fall and wind down their headlining club tour this weekend with two hometown shows at New York’s Terminal 5.
